Health Care (WASH/Nutrition)

Health is not only absence of any disease but also incorporates social, economic, spiritual, physical and mental well-being. With this comprehensive understanding of health, it is important to understand that any health program that is designed for the poorest of the poor has to focus on improving the socioeconomic well-being of the people as well as other aspects of health. Health does not exist in isolation, but it is greatly related to education, environment, sanitation, socio-economic status and agriculture and food security. Therefore, improvement in these areas by the communities in turn improves the health of the people and vice-versa. Health care includes promotive health education, preventive care, curative, preventive mental health, homecare, hygiene, immunization, skin diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, family planning and drug rehabilitative aspects. Integrating all these aspects together into any program brings about effective health improvements. There is ample evidence that working at the grassroots level with village health workers and community groups leads to the process of empowerment of women and communities in general. This is an important aspect of community-based health care. Once people have knowledge and can make informed decisions, they have the required power they can use in constructive ways to transform their communities in all aspects.

Therefore, Life Chances Fund wants to mobilize funds to support health facilities and health care providers and advocate for the right to primary health care services for all citizens.

Life Chances Fund also intends to build the capacity of communities and local authorities through training on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Nutrition for child well-being and to ensure there is increased improvement in awareness and knowledge within the populace.
